“Protecting Water Quality in Missoula Valley”
Peter Nielson, Water Quality District

Join Water Quality District supervisor Peter Nielson for a discussion of groundwater and surface water issues in Missoula.  Peter will focus on a history of what Missoula has done to address water quality locally and the role of the Missoula Valley Water Quality District with a focus on the Milltown Reservoir cleanup and future challenges such as the Smurfit-Stone mill site cleanup.

 

“Experiential Education and Wilderness”

Wilderness educator Steve Archibald will be discussing the benefit of incorporating wilderness into education and will provide a plethora of tricks and tools for teaching experientially.  For educators and environmental lovers this talk is not to be missed.

 

“Five Valley’s Geomorphology
Andrea Stanley

An introduction to the environmental conditions that dictate river channels.  Andrea will look at how rivers respond to natural changes such as landslides and anthropogenic causes such as dams, water use, and urbanization.  Andrea will focus on local examples, including the Clark Fork River, Blackfoot and Rattlesnake.  We will discuss what is being done today in local watersheds to avoid impacts and mitigate existing effects.
