Join us in exploring one of the fantastic beaver dams in the upper Rattlesnake Watershed!

This beaver dam started up in 2025 and has been growing and changing ever since. With your help we can watch how it changes throughout the year, and see what kinds of other creatures are using this area!

Read on to learn more about the two sides of this project, Citizen Science photos and game camera photos!

What is Photo Point Monitoring?

Photo point monitoring can be a useful and inexpensive tool for qualitatively

documenting events and changes at a site over time. This type of monitoring

allows for comparisons between photos of a special area to determine whether changes have occurred over time. Well-documented photo points can also be used to “tell the story”. We hope to engage community members in Citizen Science by learning more about beaver activity in the Rattlesnake Watershed through these photo points.

The Game Camera Project!

Alongside the photos of the face of the dam we are partnering with The University of Montana Wilderness Institute to maintain a system of game cameras to get a better picture of the overall use of the site!

These cameras take photo's automatically whenever something moves past the camera, day of night!
